With “Comfortably Numb 2022” Roger Waters has released a new version of the Pink Floyd hit. “Comfortably Numb” first appeared on the Pink Floyd album “The Wall” (1979).

The track was written during Waters’ recent This is Not A Drill tour and produced by him and Gus Seyffert. Other contributors to the recording include Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich. Our impressions of his tour show in Pittsburgh can be found here.

Waters compositional moves: Dark sounds and a lower key

The musician can be quoted as follows in the press release for his new work: “During the lockdown I recorded a new demo version of ‘Comfortably number as an opener for our show ‘This is Not A Drill’ up. I dropped it a whole notch, in A minor, to make it darker. Also, I arranged it with no solos except over the outro chord progression, where there’s a heartbreakingly beautiful female vocal solo by shanay Johnson, one of our new singers, gives.”

Surprisingly, the ex-Pink Floyd musician did not use any political symbolism in his video. This year alone, Waters attracted attention with all sorts of crude views, whether on the question of guilt in the Ukraine war or the question of Israel’s responsibility for the conflicts in the Middle East. The new video only shows the shadows of sad people in a sad world and, of course, the flying Floyd pig.

On the piece you can hear:

  • Roger Waters – vocals
  • Gus Seyffert – bass, synths, percussion, vocals
  • Joey Waronker – Drums
  • dave Kilminster – Singing
  • Jonathan Wilson – harmonium, synths, guitar and vocals
  • Jon Carin – synths, vocals
  • shanay Johnson – Vocals
  • Amanda Belair – Vocals
  • Robert Walter – organ/piano
  • nigel Godrich – strings, amplifiers
  • Additionally: Backing Vocals by Roger Waters “The Wall Sessions”
