Roeselare hostage: man (53) arrested for attempted murder

The suspect entered his ex-girlfriend’s home.

The facts took place on Friday evening in the Spoelstraat Roeselare. A 53-year-old man broke into his ex-partner’s home. During the incident, the houses in the neighborhood were evacuated as a precaution by the police of the Riho zone. A total of thirty people were evacuated. The suspect was eventually apprehended around 11 p.m.

On Saturday morning, the Kortrijk department of the West Flanders public prosecutor’s office announced that the fifty-year-old will be brought before the investigating judge.

The man is not only suspected of burglary and illegal deprivation of liberty, but also of attempted murder of his ex-partner. The woman was injured in the incident, but is not in a life-threatening condition.


According to the neighbors, the man had an ax with him. The damage to the door is clearly visible. This morning the police were busy with the trace investigation. According to neighbors, the victim’s son and daughter were also in the house. The son was able to flee and he also let the daughter go.
