Roche boss Thomas Schinecker confirmed that the pharmaceutical company has a very healthy business in an interview with “NZZ am Sonntag”.
In addition, Roche has no growth problem and a Job cuts is not imminent.
As an “innovative company,” Roche always works at the limits of what research knows today, Schinecker continued. To do this, risks would have to be taken. Prioritization is important and certain projects probably could have been stopped sooner, he admitted. Research remains the core of the company, even if Roche wants to become more efficient there.
Schinecker did not want to give a specific date for the market launch of the anti-obesity drug. “We haven’t given an exact date externally. 2028, 2030, it was once said. Somewhere in between, I think,” he said. Three possible drugs in research have been given fast-track status, one example being GLP-1. With the drug against Alzheimer’s, Roche will soon enter the crucial phase 3, but this will still take a certain amount of time.
In general, the company boss also emphasized the central role of artificial intelligence (AI) in drug development. AI accelerates research by analyzing molecules more efficiently and developing them further in a targeted manner, said Schinecker.
