Fortuna Sittard briefly played with twelve players against Heerenveen in the Dutch Eredivisie at the end of the game – and met in the 89th minute.
Heerenveen led 2-1 in the 88th minute, when Sittard brought the players Darijo Grujcic and Owen Johnson for Ryan Fosso and Jasper Dahlhaus. The problem: Dahlhaus did not leave the place.
When the mistake was noticed after about 20 seconds, there was a game interruption, Dahlhaus had to go down. But now Sittard had earned a corner kick. The team scored 2-2 and got another point.
Van Persie: “This is unimaginable”
Former Dutch international Robin van Persie, who trains Heerenveen, noticed the mismatch and protested on the sidelines. “It cannot be that they play with twelve men. That is unimaginable”said van Persie. “So I asked the fourth official: ‘Shouldn’t you do anything there?’ “

Does the result remain?
Now the question arises whether the result will exist. “We asked the referee and the clubs to comment on the exact occurrences”the Dutch newspaper “de Telegraaf” quoted the football association KNVB. “On the basis of these statements, we will ask the international control committee ifab for advice. After we have received this recommendation, the competition committee of professional football will make a decision.”
