Despite his double pack, Robin Gosens missed the final in the Conference League with AC Florence. However, his strong performance could bring him a ticket for the Nations League.

Robin Gosens was in the dilemma where there are so many football professionals every now and then. In the semi-finals of the Conference League against Betis Sevilla, the 30-year-old scored two goals, so he was personally extremely successful, but it was not enough for the collective triumph. AC Florence won the second leg 2-1 after 90 minutes, but after extra time it was 2-2 and Seville cheered after the 2-1 success in the first leg. While only the grief remained with Gosens.

Gosens: “My heart cries so much”

“You don’t score two goals in a semi -finals every day – I still stand here and I am sad because I know it wasn’t enough”said the left -back. “My heart cries so much. I’m sorry for the fans and the team. We absolutely wanted to bring this final home. We gave everything, but a detail decided the game. I feel empty.”

But Gosens quickly switched to attack mode again. “In the changing room we heard Betis singing and I told the team that they should listen carefully. Her joy must reveal our anger that we have to convert into positive energy. Now it is about bringing nine points in the league to return to Europe”he said.

Florence is currently eighth in Serie A, has three points behind in seventh and four in places four to six – in the best case, even the Champions League is possible. In the worst case, Gosens and Co. are also empty in the Italian league.

Series A is ready again for the DFB team

However, it would not be due to the German winger, who was previously loaned by Union Berlin and has now been committed to seven million euros. Gosens again underpins how much he is the series A this season. He was already directly involved in 17 competitive goals this season.

The time in Bergamo opened the door to the national team at the time – and his performances in Florence could now enable him to come. “I dream of participating in both things”the 23-fold ex-international recently said in an interview with RTL about a nomination for the final four tournament in the Nations League in summer and the 2026 World Cup.

Robin Gosens trains with the DFB team

Gosens on: “For me, the national team will always remain the biggest thing that can be achieved in football at an individual level. For me, this is the highest award for being able to represent your country. And as long as the national coach has not told me that the door forever is too too, I will always believe in it.”

Florence coach Palladino Sauer because of Non-nomination

His club trainer Raffaele Palladino was apparently very convinced that Gosens had actually earned a consideration for the Nation’s League quarter-finals against Italy (2: 1, 3: 3). “I honestly say: I’m surprised at the lack of nomination. I’m not a national coach, but Gosens plays a great season and also scores on the offensive”he said. Gosens is a “Fixed point of the whole team”a “Captain without bandage” and “One of the best defenders in Serie A”.

And the player said at the time: “I hope Germany will come sooner or later. At the moment the decision has been made and it is up to me to respect it. Now I concentrate on the Fiorentina and want to do my best here.” And he succeeded quite well – unlike his DFB competitor on the left. Nico Schlotterbeck is injured and will fail in the Nations League, David Room was injured and does not play a good second half of the season.

National coach Nagelsmann wants the title – with Gosens?

So the chances for Gosens are quite good that his name will also fall if national coach Julian Nagelsmann announces his contingent for the final four on May 22nd. “It’s about the self -image: a title would do us well. We look forward to the tournament in our own country”said the 37-year-old. It is possible that he also comes to the realization that Gosens would do the DFB team well in the form.
