Robin Frijns: happy with results, less happy with Berlin | 1Limburg

With six of the sixteen races on the counter, Robin Frijns from Maastricht is in excellent shape in Formula E.

The number four in the battle for the world title, together with the trio Stoffel Vandoorne, Jean-Eric Vergne and Mitch Evans, seems to be breaking away from the competition in terms of points. But Frijns himself tempers the expectations regarding his title chances.

‘It couldn’t get any worse’
This weekend the Envision Racing driver will compete twice in Berlin, on the site of the former Tempelhof airport. Last season he saw his last hope for the world title go up in smoke due to bad luck in the denouement. Frijns agrees that this should be different this year. “I like the real street circuits more, but hopefully this year will be better than last year. Actually, it can’t be worse than last year.”

Plus point
The Limburger can cling to the qualifying format that has been in effect in Formula E since this season and is mainly based on a 1-on-1 knockout system. The strong qualifying drivers, including Frijns, come to the fore in that format. “That’s a big plus and I hope we can maintain the form and always start in the top eight and take points.”
