Now he’s really starting to do it: Robert Lewandowski continues to provoke his departure from Bayern. In a podcast with “OnetSport”, the Polish national striker said: “I just want to leave FC Bayern. Respect and loyalty are more important than work.” The well-informed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano shared these statements on his Twitter account.
Lewandowski continued: “Something died in me. I want to leave FC Bayern for more emotions in my life.” In the last few weeks there has been speculation about a move to FC Barcelona – despite the current contract until the summer of 2023. What do the recent statements mean? Still unclear.
Bayern Munich’s honorary president Uli Hoeneß only got involved in the debate about the top striker on Sunday and spoke out in favor of a hard line in the case of Lewandowski, who was willing to change. “If you don’t have an alternative that you think can replace him to some extent – it looks like that’s difficult at the moment – then I would definitely advocate, like everyone else at the club, that he still one year left,” said Hoeneß on “Sport1”.
After that, those responsible for Bayern would have to “see whether he will go on a free transfer next year or maybe even be extended again, nobody knows that”. Nevertheless, Hoeneß sees Bayern well positioned for the coming season. “I think the new team is being worked on very intensively and if everything comes what they presented to me this week, then I see a good chance that we will have an attractive team next year – with Robert Lewandowski,” said the 70 year old.
