When Angela de Jong reveals in Nikkie de Jager’s Lightless Lounge podcast that she was never approached by John de Mol again after she refused his lucrative offer of 800,000 euros, the make-up diva laughs a lot. She also refused a proposal from the media billionaire: “Well, then I know my future. Hahaha!”

‘Oh my goodness’

Her manager Wes van Os has seen quite a few proposals. “Nik said no to Avastars, among others,” he explains.

Angela points out that Avastars, which was ultimately presented by Kalvijn, was a huge flop. “Oh, are you happy!”

Nikkie: “Oh, I knew we were going to talk about this.”

Angela: “But for the Avastars presentation?”

Nikkie: “Yes.”

Angela: “Oh my goodness.”

Nikkie: “YES!”

The 10 Questions

Nikkie says that she has been asked for many more programs. “Well, the funny thing for us was then… It was after Eurovision and of course everyone was calling. Avastars was still lying down, the jury of Holland’s Got Talent was still lying down, The Voice Kids was still lying down. They also asked me for The 10 Questions.”

The 10 Questions is the talk show that Rob Kemps presented. Well, a big secret was gradually revealed: Rob did not come up with the questions himself, but was prompted by Antoinnette Scheulderman. So embarrassing.

‘Am so happy’

Nikkie refused The 10 Questions and all those other titles. “I didn’t see myself in everything! I then thought: I shouldn’t do this. Somehow I thought: I have to do one, otherwise they will think I don’t want to do anything, but in the end I didn’t do it at all and I am so happy in the end.”

She continues: “Also because of you, Angela. I think when people think about trying things, because I thought so too… I thought: what if Angela doesn’t like it, then my career is over. Believe me: the whole of Hilversum thinks this!”

Playground

And rightly so, Angela thinks. You try behind the scenes, she says sternly. “No, but, you know. If you try something out, it doesn’t have to be on the screen right away, right? Television is not a playground, is it?
