Rob Geus is once again being criticized for the many sponsorship deals that affect his credibility. This time he is again peddling washable duvets. “This is something too much.”
Quality marks that are for sale, selling his own cleaning products and sponsorship deals that undermine his independence: it is a mystery why John de Mol was persuaded by crime journalist and TV producer John van den Heuvel to give ‘hygiene expert’ Rob Geus a second chance.
Dubious
This time we see Rob again promoting some brand for washable duvets. “Is the new program The Hygiene Police by Rob Geus fully sponsored or something?” asks TV authority Tina Nijkamp on her channel. “With so much sponsorship, can you still call yourself an independent program with police in the title?”
She continues: “And that white coat to emphasize the so-called neutral expert quality. Or could this be a commercial recording and will Zelesta (washable duvets) buy airtime during the break of De Hygiene Police? Doubtful.”
Cleaning company
Tina is not surprised that Rob has so many sponsorship deals tied to his TV comeback. “Also because they were previously in the news with the fact that there is a cleaning company of which Rob used to be the face, who also gets a role in the program. I wonder what it is like. I am curious and will definitely watch the first episode.”
She continues: “I always find these kinds of things dubious. Then Rob stands there with a white coat at Zelesta and of course he says in the commercial: ‘You really have to have Zelesta because it is very hygienic, much more hygienic than regular duvets.’”
Too much
Rob plays this very clumsily, Tina thinks. “Then I think: if you are the face of such a program with ‘police’ in the title. Well, okay, everyone has to know for themselves, but I thought it was very striking, and to also post it on Instagram…”
She concludes: “Maybe something too much all.”
