RKC Waalwijk goalkeeper Vaessen in hospital after collision

RKC Waalwijk goalkeeper Etienne Vaessen was consciously taken to the hospital on Saturday evening. That reports the club on X, formerly Twitter. During the match against Ajax, he collided hard with striker Brian Brobbey and remained unconscious on the field, after which he was resuscitated.

According to general director of RKC Frank van Mosselveld, it quickly became clear that it was not heart problems. “The medical people immediately started resuscitation, but it doesn’t look like a heart problem. When he was taken off the field, he was awake again, but he did not know where he was,” said Van Mosseveld in an interview with NOS.

After the collision, Vaessen lay still on the field for a long time and medical help soon arrived. He and the players of both teams were shielded from the public and cameras with cloths.

After a few minutes, Vaessen was taken off the field on a stretcher. After a brief discussion, both teams decided not to complete the match. When the match was stopped the score was 2-3 in favor of the Amsterdam team. The KNVB must now decide what will happen with the meeting.
