RKC Waalwijk is out of the KNVB cup tournament. The Waalwijkers lost 2-1 to FC Utrecht at home on Wednesday evening. The big man for the Utrecht team was Sébastien Haller, who scored both goals for the club from the cathedral city.

FC Utrecht is number 3 in the Eredivisie, while RKC dangles at the bottom. However, there was little noticeable difference in strength in the first half, with Richonell Margaret as the most striking player in the first twenty minutes. The RKC attacker was close to a goal twice in the opening minutes and he scored on his third attempt in the eighteenth minute.

Haller was immediately important for Utrecht as a substitute in the 2-1 win over Feyenoord last Sunday and he also proved that against RKC. The French Ivorian equalized after just thirty seconds of play in the second half. The striker tapped a ball passed by Paxten Aaronson behind RKC keeper Jeroen Houwen.

Penalty for Utrecht
Haller played a leading role again in the eightieth minute. After Roshon van Eijma had knocked him down in the sixteen-meter area, he was allowed to score himself from 11 meters. Haller shot the penalty flawlessly.

The win keeps FC Utrecht in the race for the cup, which the team has won three times in club history. The last time was in 2004. The club was a finalist in 2020, but that competition was canceled due to the corona crisis.
