RKC starts carnival with a hangover due to defeat against FC Twente

In a special carnival outfit, RKC Waalwijk took on FC Twente on Friday evening. Luck did not bring the red-yellow-blue colored shirt. In the colors of Schoenlapperslaand, as Waalwijk is called with carnival, it went down 1-2 in its own stadium in the absolute final phase.

RKC started the match well. The team of coach Joseph Oosting had possession of the ball and was patiently looking for the right way to the goal of FC Twente goalie Lars Unnerstall. Out of nowhere, the home team fell behind halfway through the first half.

The Waalwijkers were allowed to take a throw-in themselves. Richard van der Venne did so, while left back Alexander Büttner was still standing in front of him. The ball eventually came to Ahmed Touba. The central defender dribbled in, but soon lost the ball. With two defenders in front of the ball, there was suddenly a lot of space for FC Twente. The team took advantage of that. It was Ricky van Wolfswinkel who managed to convert the situation into a goal, with a hard shot into the short corner.

over, over, over
After the opening goal, RKC actually lost it. FC Twente took more and more initiative. The fact that it then took a very long time before goals were scored again in the Mandemakers Stadium had to do with the visor of the Tukkers, because that was not on point.

Joshua Brenet got the opportunity to make the 0-2 not long after the 0-1. Michel Vlap was sent into the depths, he then gave Brenet an unmissable opportunity. The fullback did, miss. He shot the ball hard and high over the goal of RKC goalie Etienne Vaessen. Later in the first half, it was Daan Rots who gave Virgil Misidjan an unmissable opportunity, but the outcome was the same. The number ten of FC Twente shot high over.

In between, Vlap shot the ball out of the stadium, attempting to target RKC’s goal, while Misidjan shot the ball against the scoreboard in the second half. Due to the many misses, RKC could hope for a result for a long time to come.

equalizer
After Vaessen remained cool face to face with Rots and managed to keep the FC Twente winger from scoring, RKC got a little more grip on the match. And as you often see in football: if you don’t create the chances yourself, the opponent will. That was now the case. RKC went more emphatically on the hunt for the equalizer, without immediately getting very big chances.

Jens Odgaard actually didn’t get a chance, but he shot the ball against the ropes. From the side of the field, he shot the ball over Unnerstall into the goal fifteen minutes before the end of the game. A wonderful hit that briefly exploded the Mandemakers Stadium.

hangover
Five minutes later, the German goalie prevented a second RKC goal by responding well to a shot by substitute Saïd Bakari. A win might have been a bit too much of a good thing given the game image, although Oosting’s team went looking for it in the final phase. It was a squeeze for fans of both clubs.

In the absolute final phase, Brenet seemed close to the winning goal, but his ball went just wide of Vaessen’s goal via several legs. The goalie had to get the ball out of the net from the following corner kick. Substitute Dimitrios Limnios hit the target and gave the whole of RKC a big hangover. Due to the goal in injury time, RKC went down and it must hope that the competition does not take points during the weekend.
