RKC loses its lead and draws against Excelsior

RKC Waalwijk did not get further than a draw against Excelsior during the home match on Saturday evening. The home team led 2-0 for a long time, but an own goal and a free kick made it 2-2 against the Rotterdam team.

The first half went fairly evenly. Both teams created chances, but RKC managed to score first. Yassin Oukili scored after twenty minutes on a pass from Julian Lelieveld. Fifteen minutes after half-time, Oukili scored again. From the edge of the penalty area he made it 2-0.

The lead turned out not to be enough. In the 74th minute, Excelsior came back into the match through an unfortunate own goal by Dario van den Buijs. This gave Excelsior confidence again and that led to the equalizer ten minutes before the end. Julian Baas made it 2-2 from a free kick and thus secured the final score.

Due to the draw, Excelsior is now ninth in the Eredivisie. RKC is in thirteenth place.
