Beyaert started her political career in 1989 as ships and remained that until the end of 2006. In 2007 she wrote history as the first female mayor of Harelbeke, a mandate that she exercised until 2012. Afterwards she remained active as a municipal councilor and later as chairman of the city council, until at the end of 2024 she said goodbye to active politics.
Current mayor Michaël Vannieuwenhuyze calls her “a competent driver, but also a woman with a warm heart. She was close to the people, was approachable and always committed to those who needed it.”
