A piece of music history is up for auction: The Studer A80 audio recorder, once used by Ringo Starr at Startling Studios in Tittenhurst Park, will be on sale from Friday, January 10th to February 2nd Catawiki auctioned. Catawiki is a platform for special objects.
The Studer A80 recorder on offer was one of the most advanced two-track mastering machines of its time. The recording device was modified by sound engineer Eddie Veale, who played a central technical role during the Beatles’ creative development.
In the early 1970s, Ringo asked him to rebuild the tape machine to his liking after he bought Tittenhurst Park. The property, which also housed Ascot Sound Studios, was previously owned by John Lennon. In the Tittenhurst Park studios, John Lennon’s “Imagine”, Yoko Ono’s “Fly”, “British Steel” by Judas Priest and several of Ringo Starr’s albums were created.
The Studer recorder, which has an estimated value of 50,000 euros, comes with a certificate of authenticity issued by Veale containing detailed information, serial numbers and modifications.
