It has now been almost a year since Kleen Estate, a project developer for holiday parks, Buy the Westeinder campsite in Rijsenhout. There are chalets on the campsite, where in many cases people have lived for years. Officially this is not allowed, but partly due to the acute housing shortage, the municipality of Haarlemmermeer tolerates the residents.
Panic breaks out among them when it becomes clear that Kleen Estate wants to completely renovate the site, which means that the residents have to leave chalets. From the moment the rental agreements are terminated, it is no longer quiet on the site.
The accusations being made on both sides are becoming increasingly difficult to keep track of. Therefore, below is an overview per season of what went wrong at De Westeinder.
Winter: outbreaks of violence
In the first weeks after the takeover, it immediately becomes clear that the permanent residents will have to leave. They have another six months before the chalets and mobile homes have to make way for the excavators and trucks.
The mayor soon has to intervene; in two incidents things are said to have gotten out of hand in both camps. One person is said to have suffered minor injuries. From that moment on, boas and police officers patrol the campsite grounds more often.
