Rihanna has released her first song in six years. Lift Me Up is the title track from the new Marvel film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which hits theaters November 9th. The song is dedicated to the late actor Chadwick Bosemann, who starred in the first Black Panther film.

“Lift Me Up” was co-written by Rihanna with producer Ludwig Göransson and singer Tems. An official soundtrack album for the film is scheduled for release on November 4th. It was produced by Ryan Coogler, Ludwig Göransson, Archie Davis and Dave Jordan. Rihanna released her last album ANTI in 2016.

“After talking to Ryan (Coogler) and hearing all about the direction he wanted for the film and the song, I wanted to write something that felt like a hug from all the people I’ve lost,” says Co-songwriter Tems on “Lift Me Up”. “Rihanna has always been a huge source of inspiration for me and it’s a great honor that she sang this song.”

Many stars were already involved in the soundtrack of the first “Black Panther” film. It was curated by Kendrick Lamar, who co-wrote the title track with “All the Stars” with SZA. Among others, The Weeknd, Travis Scott and Swae Lee could be heard on the soundtrack.

Chadwick Bosemann, who played T’Challa, ruler of the Afrofuturistic kingdom of Wakanda, in the first film, died of colon cancer in 2020. Marvel has decided not to recast the role for the sequel. Instead, the characters around T’challa’s mother Ramonda (Angela Bassett) and his sister Shuri (Letitia Wright) must protect Wakanda after T’Challa’s death.
