The planned Bee Gees biopic has suffered a setback due to contractual issues with Paramount, the film’s intended director Ridley Scott has revealed.

Filming was actually supposed to start in early 2025

In February 2024 it was announced that talks were underway with Scott to make a biopic about the Bee Gees. Filming on the film was actually supposed to start in early 2025, but the project stalled. And that even though the script and the cast had already been decided. In an interview with GQ, Scott explains why the film was put on hold for the time being by saying that Paramount changed the terms of the deal, after which he was forced to withdraw from the project for the time being and postpone the start of filming.

“I may be expensive, but I’m damn good”

“The studio changed the guidelines. I said, ‘You can’t do that,’ but they insisted,” Scott said. “I said, ‘Well, I’m warning you, I’m going to leave because I’m going to move on to the next movie.’ They didn’t believe me and I did it.”

“They didn’t like my deal. So I said I’ll carry on. I may be expensive, but I’m damn good,” added the 87-year-old,

Despite these hurdles, the “Gladiator 2” director expressed confidence in finding a solution with Paramount and expects to move forward with the Bee Gees film this fall. However, the director won’t be bored in 2025: As “Variety” reports, Scott is initially concentrating on the post-apocalyptic thriller “The Dog Stars” before he wants to return to the biopic about the band later in the year.

However, not much information has been leaked about the Bee Gees project so far. Neither a title nor a release date has been found yet. And although Scott confirmed that the cast had already been finalized, he did not reveal who would portray the three brothers in his film.
