Julia Krajewski defended her lead in cross-country riding at the eventing tournament in Luhmühlen. The NDR is broadcasting the decision in the German championship and in the five-star test live today.

Krajewski leads the four-star test, which is also considered a DM, with nickel. The pair only received four penalty points in the cross-country ride on Saturday for exceeding the best time (reference time). Overall, Krajewski has 26.9 points in nickel.

“It was a very fluid, good round. Nickel has been here in Luhmühlen many times and knows how it works. But tomorrow is a new day,” said the 2021 individual Olympic champion in the NDR interview.

Belgian Liedekerke-Meier now second

The Belgian Lara de Liedekerke-Meier moved up to second place with Kiarado d’Arville (31.3) in temperatures of more than 30 degrees. The toughest competitor for Krajewski in the fight for the championship title is European team champion Malin Hansen-Hotopp (Gransebieth/Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania), who, however, has a relatively clear gap with 33.8 points.

Things also went well for Krajewski with their second horse Tullabeg Platinum: the pair received 7.2 penalty points for exceeding the time limit – fourth place in the overall ranking with 34.4 points.

Krajewski can become German champion for the fifth time in the final competition on Sunday. But the title is not a given for the 37-year-old. “If you get used to becoming German champion, then something is wrong.”

National coach Thomsen in hospital after a riding accident

The traditional tournament in Lower Saxony is also an important part of the preparation for the World Cup. The World Eventing Championships (August 13th to 16th) will be held as part of the World Equestrian Games in Aachen (August 11th to 23rd).

However, national coach Peter Thomsen cannot personally examine his possible team for the World Cup as planned; he is in hospital after a riding accident last weekend. He will be represented in Luhmühlen by team boss Annette Wyrwoll, among others.

Change of leadership in the five-star test

In the higher-paying five-star test, the rankings were shaken up on Saturday. Caroline Harris (Great Britain) and D. Day were the only participants to remain without mistakes and within the best time. The reward: She improved from fourth to first place with a total of 31.1 points.

Her compatriot Emily King, who is leading after dressage, is second with Valmy Biats (33.8). They are followed by Boyd Martin (USA) with Shanroe Cooley (38.1) and New Zealander Jonelle Price with her horses Grappa Nera (39.9) and Capitaine de Hus Z (40.3).

Meyer with a strong cross-country ride

Local hero Katharina Meyer showed a strong cross-country ride on her debut at five-star level with Aspen T, remained on the course without making any mistakes and only received 4.4 penalty points for exceeding the best time. She jumped from 19th place to eighth place.

“It’s such an emotional moment to ride this route with just ten seconds over the best time, it’s just amazing,” said Meyer happily.

Five couples did not finish the cross-country ride, including Heike Jahncke from RV Ganderkesee with Mighty Spring FRH.
