Rico Verhoeven will make his big comeback at the end of October. The kickboxer from Halsteren will then be in the ring during a major new event in Ahoy: HIT IT. It is not yet known who his opponent will be that evening.
It is currently a bit quiet around Verhoeven in the field of sports. Although a documentary series about his life recently appeared, his last appearance in the ring was on October 23 of last year. During that match – which he won against the Belgian Moroccan Jamal Ben Saddik – he suffered a serious eye injury. He is still recovering from that.
However, according to his doctors, he should be completely back to normal on October 29. Then the big new event will take place in Ahoy, where music performances are also organized in addition to kickboxing matches. “As we know it from America”, Verhoeven told Wakker! on Monday morning.
Ten years unbeaten
It is not yet known who Verhoeven will compete against during HIT IT. “It will be a major opponent anyway. We will announce more and more in the coming weeks.” It is already clear that it will not be a title fight.
Still, the 33-year-old world champion will do everything he can not to lose, he told Humberto on Sunday evening. “Actually, there is still a lot at stake for me. I must and will remain unbeaten until the end of 2024.” If Verhoeven succeeds, he will be the best in the world for ten years.
Incidentally, not only Verhoeven will enter the ring. Former football player Dirk Kuyt also puts on the gloves and takes on another well-known Dutchman. Who that is has yet to be announced.
