It is one of the worst new TV formats of the year so far: the game show Think Inside The Box with presenter Richard Groenendijk. The premiere was extremely disappointing last week with 292 thousand viewers (6% market share) and that meager score was not made up for last night: episode two attracted 247 thousand viewers (5%) on SBS 6.

“Too stupid for words!”

Critics are not surprised that Richard scores so poorly. According to Telegraaf journalist Daphne van Rossum, the hints given in the program are ‘too stupid for words’. She speaks of ‘contempt for the viewer’. Her colleague Jordi Versteegden? He calls the format ‘too toddler-like for words’.

Their colleague Marco Weijers hands out the final blow in the Telegraaf podcast: “SBS 6 as a testing ground is nice, but the bar should not be set too low and this sounds like it was conceived one afternoon and then it was shown on the TV.”

No second season

According to former SBS 6 boss Tina Nijkamp, it is evident that Think Inside The Box will not return for a second season. “Don’t think Think Inside The Box deserves/gets a second season,” she writes on Instagram. “Paper-thin format and takes way too long. Long version of the mystery guest in Showbizzquiz with Ron Brandsteder from a long time ago.”

According to her, it will ‘never’ be a TV hit. She points out that the repeat of Chateau Meiland immediately attracted more viewers, namely 278 thousand (7%). “Painful.”

Bed and breakfast

NPO 1 took gold last night on prime time with 1.3 million viewers (26%) for Bed & Breakfast and 1.2 million viewers (29%) for Tweede Hans. The silver is for RTL 4, which scored 1.1 million viewers (23%) with De Verraders. Beau subsequently had 727 thousand (18%).

NPO 2 was also most popular with Twee voor Twaalf (1 million and 21%), Nieuwsuur (469 thousand and 11%) and De Geknipte Gast (443 thousand and 9%).

Viewing figures

Other programs that did not make the top 15 include Shownieuws (534 thousand), Khalid and Sophie (518 thousand), Time for MAX (407 thousand) and HLF8 (224 thousand).
