Richard Groenendijk’s new performance will not start for another two years, but the comedian already has an opening song and a theme, namely ‘shame and shamelessness’. “The shamelessness of society, in which all opinions and judgments seem to be ready-made, the harsh way in which people treat each other.”

‘Look at Eritrea!’

Richard will also target celebrities, including Sylvie Meis, who became the victim of a gigantic bag robbery this summer. “Yes, the shamelessness of a celebrity whose bags worth eight tons are stolen. Honey, we can help an entire village in Eritrea, right?” he sneers in the LINDA.

Yet Richard also takes a bit of his own approach. “I’m ashamed of my own materialistic side. I see a lot of misery around me, but when I buy a bed, I also want it to be the very best bed that exists.”

Ranting celebrities

Does Richard have anything to say? Yes, he is also tired of all those ranting celebrities who shamelessly lash out at each other. “Lately I’ve been reading nothing but: ‘That one lashes out at that one’ and ‘That one hits back at that one’. In a time of social chill, it gets under your skin to be so concerned with that negativity.”

According to the comedian, celebrities should not be so mean to each other. “I can be quite heavy-handed myself, but Marko has taught me to look at things with a more positive outlook. I believe that we are indebted to life and ourselves to stand in the light. By which I mean, just focus on beauty.”
