Ricciardo, Gasly, Norris and Sainz all enjoy Maico’s stroopwafels: “Stroopy o’clock”

This year too, the stroopwafels on the Zandvoort circuit are storming again. Visitors, team members and even drivers queue up at Maico Vergunst’s stroopwafel stall. Daniel Ricciardo already scored a fresh waffle last year and he was there again this edition. And he’s not alone.

“We saw Ricciardo arrive from afar with his team,” an employee of the stall tells NH Nieuws. He also came by last year, everyone at the stall hoped he would come back for a waffle. “He’s really a super likeable guy.”

Normally Maico is on the market in Huizen with his stall. This weekend he has other customers in Zandvoort.

“We occasionally walk around the circuit to offer the waffles,” the employee explains. Driver Pierre Gasly could not resist the smell of fresh waffles. Judging by the images circulating on social media, he was not the only driver who could use some sugar. Drivers Pierre Gasly, Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz can’t stay away from the sweet waffles either.

Most drivers know how to find their way to the booth, but they are actually still hoping for one specific Red Bull driver. “Of course we hope to hand out a stroopwafel to our national Formula 1 hero,” he admits. So far Max hasn’t been spotted yet, but the weekend has only just started.

It is certainly delicious, but is it wise to eat such a waffle if you still have to race over the circuit at 300 kilometers per hour? “That’s fine,” explains the employee of the stroopwafel stall. “It’s a good way to get sugars in.”
