Riccardo Tisci shows first creation of his own label after 17 years

Former Burberry creative director Riccardo Tisci made a splash at yesterday’s London premiere of Marvel’s Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever. He dressed actress Michaela Coel, who plays Wakandan warrior Aneka in the film.

This fact is noteworthy as it marks Tisci’s first unveiling of a new creation in 17 years since founding his eponymous label. The choice of Coel was not accidental: “When I met Michaela for the first time, I immediately understood that she represents and expresses everything that a woman means to me – freedom, beauty, a sense of adventure,” enthuses Tisci in a statement on Instagram.

“Today, 17 years after founding my first label Riccardo Tisci, Michaela and I decided to create a look that celebrates our creativity and friendship for the London premiere of her new film ‘Black Panther’: ‘Wakanda Forever'” Tisci continued.

Michaela Coel all in black

Tisci’s head-to-toe look featured a black matte stretch-silk bodysuit, over which Coel wore a tiered Chantilly lace skirt with barely-there floral and star patterns. She paired it with black floral lace tights and black high-heeled sandals. To accentuate the look, Coel dispensed with all jewelry except for rings on his right hand.

Tisci unveiled its final collection for Burberry after almost five years with the company as part of London Fashion Week, Spring/Summer 2023, handing over creative direction to former Bottega Veneta Creative Director Daniel Lee.

The almost three-hour long film “Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever” will also be released in German cinemas on November 11th.
