Since Octo Octa began producing and performing music over 15 years ago, she has been pushing boundaries – whether genre conventions or gender binaries. Maya Bouldry-Morrison, as her real name is, has gained an excellent international reputation as a DJ in recent years with her life-affirming, euphoric sets, often together with her partner and label co-founder Eris Drew.
Her fourth album SIGILS FOR SURVIVAL, symbols for survival, is her first since 2019 and celebrates the tenth anniversary of her coming out as a trans person, as shown by the last track “Eighth Intention (Turn The Wheel)”, on which her voice can also be heard with a self-written poem. Boudry-Morrison recorded the album with analog instruments, which she assembled on the computer to create impressively danceable songs.
From ambient-inspired soundscapes like “…To The Divinity Of Gay Sex”, playful compositions like “Ritual To Exist & Connect” to euphoric dance floorbreakers like “Keep Pressing On”. A celebration of survival, love and queer joy.
