Future Ghetto Funk is ready for a breakthrough in this country.
She is no longer a newcomer in her home country of South Africa. And after collaborations with Beyoncé and Gorillaz, her name is also a household name in London and Sāo Paulo. It’s time for us in this country to catch up, because Moonchild Sanelly is an experience: beats inspired by South African club music like Amapiano and Gqom, influences from Afro-punk and electronica, as well as raps and singing with explicitly sex-positive lyrics in Xhosa and English by a self-confident woman with dark blue braids and a clear vision.
Together it creates “Future Ghetto Funk,” as she calls it. What’s not to love? Moonchild Sanelly says that she always knew that she was born to be a global star – no wonder, since she grew up with a jazz singer as a mother, a hip-hop producer as a brother and cousins who were active as dancers.
FULL MOON features introspective songs like “Falling,” which addresses the fear of failure. But Moonchild Sanelly really shines when the BPM increases again like in “Scrambled Egg” or “Gwara Gwara”. In a just world, the next superstar!
