Miki Berenyi does not use the old band name Lush for her new project. Understandable because co-singer Emma Anderson is not there and drummer Chris Acland died. Nevertheless, the spirit of her 90ies band is in Tripla, which at that time cleverly found a place between Shoegaze and Britpop.
The artwork, for example, comes from Chris Bigg, who significantly designed the aesthetics of the old Lush label 4AD. And Miki Berenyi Trio covered four lush songs on a first EP. The debut album leads the music of Lush to a kind of backward -looking future. Together with KJ Mckillop, head of the Shoegaze band Moose in the 90s and also with Berenyis Band Piroshka, and the indie adventurer Oliver Cherer designs a synth pop variant of the Lush sound with blubber keyboards and computer beats.
That sounds on songs like “8th deadly sin” or “Vertigo” antiquarian digital – and very good because sensual and warming, and emphasizes the unique voice of Berenyi. On the other hand, attempts to oppose this sound a few psychedelic songs lead to boring.
