Ikkimel cannot give her enough credit for what she achieved with the release of her debut album Fotze a year ago. Rarely have I noticed such a collective sigh of relief and excitement in my circle of friends, in a sense of relief and exuberance, as through this counter and reversal thrust. By the way, I say this as someone who could be her mother. I am not a fan of artistic caution. My generation even relied too much on victimhood in the Riot Grrrl movement. My opinion. Now comes Poppstar – and how.
14 tracks, all relevant, if thrown out quickly, it seems to me. No problem. Why? Because it’s only marginally about musical innovation. It’s about letting out attitude and anger. And about the aggressive “So, you’ll get it back”. With “What now” she gives the doubters about her art a slap in the face right from the start. A real masterpiece follows “Facesitting”: “If you wear nail polish, that’s very nice for you, but for me it still means that I’m not fucking with you.” One sentence, one clearing. “Scissors” praises lesbian sex, “Who’s Dat?” pushes his way through the closed door of the hip-hop guys: “Gangsta rappers have shaved their balls, but they start to shake when they hear the word queer.”
And “hiking whore” is her musical tour diary from the last year. Ikkimel is a fantastic lyricist. And she’s hilarious. Money is power – that’s a constant theme here. And the only point at which a little “Well” escapes me. However, if this instrument of power is desexualized, some dumb dudes will have little room for maneuver. In this respect…What is it called? “kink”: “Peace, joy, pancakes, go look for your eggs!” The nightmare old woman Alice Schwarzer publicly devalued Ikki a few weeks ago, but has now rowed back. That doesn’t matter, of course, but it’s significant. “Now it’s time to lick asshole.”
