Review: Frau Kraushaar :: Bella Utopia

To mark out the spectrum: One piece consists of seemingly mechanical birdsong, which is torn apart by a blast that sounds a bit like a factory siren. “A Little Frog Music”, although it’s just an instrumental that’s barely a minute long, may be an example of what the Hamburg artist Silvia Berger as Frau Kraushaar is doing on BELLA UTOPIA: The songs, which by the way are all written in German and otherwise, are constantly shimmering very different from the multilingual predecessor, between big gesture and small noise, esotericism and social criticism, pompous claim to art and ironic safety distance, between big ego and tender Dada.

Not that the singing Frau Kraushaar doesn’t know it best herself: “I have feelings, hmmm, they’re just there there, my feelings, they’re there there, the feelings.” But you can’t rely on anything either , because in the next song cow bells are rattling again or she sings about a yellow sun and a wheel and whatever else is lying around there, maybe a guitar drives across or an electro children’s beat bangs, and Kraushaar sings about animals that want to be flambéed. Don’t have to be taken seriously. But you can. Should. Maybe. Or maybe it is.
