DJ Koze releases its albums at very large intervals. If he were under contract with a large label, this would bring the emissary of the marketing departments at the Jour Fixe with the management emergency. Koze’s last album, Knock Knock, was published seven years ago.
But when a new album comes from him, then with urgency in all areas, so that for ADHD-conditioned listeners: inside a difficult time. Music Can Hear Us is a manifesto of stimulus overflowing. It starts with the number of features and does not stop in manic eclecticism that Koze spreads with the 15 songs.
Each: R Guest: In makes an important contribution to becoming different from koze music
The coordinate system of Stefan Kozalla, born in 1972 in Flensburg, has not only shifted from the track to the song since yesterday. The two albums Amygdala (2013) and Knock Knock (2018) were the first examples that Koze become scene and genres. Techno-purists may have turned their eyes when the tracks from their DJ Koze accepted trendy structures for the first time. Spotifysocialized listeners: Inside, there will be asking what strange songs should actually be, which sometimes do not even have a chorus and therefore do not sound like the handy two and a half -minute spectacles that the algorithm feeds on “your playlist” every day.
And then there is apparently a broad center that is not about techno-purism and for streaming-optimized songwriting cannot be reconciled with your feeling of aesthetic. And Music Can Hear Us is made for these people. Among the many features on the album, Damon Albarn (Blur! Gorillaz!) Comfort the greatest attention. Similar to Koze, Albarn is a musician-obsessed man who is also driven by a musical curiosity beyond 50 who has already lost some 30-year-olds. The album version of her “Pure Love” sounds like the abstraction of an ethno song. Also included are: Sophia Kennedy, Soap & Skin, Arnim Teutoburg-Weiß (Beatsteaks), The Düsseldorf Düsterboys, Ada, sofa Kourtesis, Markus Acher (The Notwist), Marley Waters and Marewrew. And each: R Guest: In makes an important contribution to becoming different.
There are as different as the pop ambient “What About Us” with Markus Acher, Tribal House in “Buschtaxi”, the David-Lynch-igant “Unbelievable”, Featuring Ada, or the Unironian cover version of the 80s ITISCO-disco hits “Vamos a la Playa” by Righeira, in which the singing of the cover of cover experiences Soap & skin freezes the blood. The brackets for all of these completely different songs form Kozes penchant for psychedelia and its playfulness, which, according to current hearing habits, is interpreted as a gravity. Under the more or less pop singing of the guest stars, Music Can Hear Us hide with the most beautiful experiments that can be found in electronic music today.
