The music on END OF THE DAY was created when Courtney Barnett wrote music for a documentary about her career path so far in 2021. The film “Anonymous Club” was praised by critics as an antithesis to conventional rock biographers. It’s worth watching, “Anonymous Club” is available on DVD.
As a soundtrack for the documentary, Courtney Barnett developed a series of instrumental guitar pieces, located between the quiet experiments of Sonic Youth and the recordings that Brian Eno made with Daniel Lanois in the mid-80s.
While only short snippets can be heard in the film, Barnett has reassembled the longer templates for this album. “Floating Down” is the name of one of the tracks, and it fits: This music knows no beginning, knows no end, finds its way alone – ideally on any meditation music playlist that deserves it.
