Two of Bryan Ferry’s albums have been reissued as restored CD and colored LP versions. In the first half of the 1970s, he and his band Roxy Music were considered avant-gardists. In 2012, Ferry, now 67 years old, selected 13 pieces from all his albums for THE JAZZ AGE (4 stars), recorded in the style of the 1920s and packaged in a cover by the French artist Paul Colin from 1929. 15 musicians supported him on the successful instrumental work.
Whether “Virginia Plain” or “Love Is The Drug”, whether “The Bogus Man” or “This Island Earth”, whether “This Is Tomorrow” or “Do The Strand” – they all breathe the special touch of the twenties. In 2018, Bryan Ferry And His Orchestra returned with Rhett Davies on BITTER-SWEET (4 stars): This time with the Berlin touch of the thirties, as Ferry had already contributed six songs to the soundtrack to the German TV series “Babylon Berlin” the year before. The maestro uses vocals on half of the songs: “Zamba”, “Alphaville”, “New Town”, “Bitter-Sweet”, “Chance Meeting”, “Boys And Girls”, “Reason Or Rhyme” and “While My Heart Is Still Beating” – like the instrumental versions – are all perfectly kept in the desired sound image.
