Review: …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead :: XI: Bleed Her Now

When Trail Of Dead kick off an album, they like to do it with a slightly megalomaniac overture. Here it is appropriately called “Our Epic Attempts” and begins with the band name, which has been translated into various languages, although the German version is unfortunately a bit unsuccessful. But who wants to complain about trifles when an album is then being prepared between strings, thunder and heavy metal, which sets new standards even for Trail Of Dead conditions: 21 songs between prog epic and miniature, quadraphonic and thus by means of one as well complicated and sound-enhancing Dolby Surround forerunner technology from the seventies – Wow!

Somehow everything that has ever flowed into Conrad Keely & Co. seems to have ended up on this time-wound record. It combines highly melodic indie pop appeal (“Field Songs”) and long-haired classic rock reminiscences (“No Confidence”), cathartic punk one-minute tracks (“Kill Everyone”) and the finest social criticism folk with Spoon singer Britt Daniel ( “Growing Divide”) as well as her good old rock bombast (“Taken By The Hand”) or a great guest appearance by Amanda Palmer in the orchestral “Millennium Actress”. A lot helps a lot? Definitely here!
