The Bossa Nova was probably cultivated in various corners of the world, but certainly not in Greece. Nevertheless, the Greek Stella Chronopoulou opens her fifth album Adagio with playful bossa-Nova lightness from the antique-popping rhythm machine and introduces her manifesto of the slowness: a maximum relaxed album, which with psychedelic guitars, dazzling keyboards and tripy percussion like a world-forgotten barle chuckert. Here and there the Bouzouki wears you gently to olive trees, where the view strolls sentimental.
She was busy production for five years, she was supported by Rafael Cohen, who would otherwise help as a bass player !!! AKA CHK CHK CHK and Solo is active as Las Palabras. The two compressed their zoom calls into a sound between ethno folk and dream pop full of melancholy, which can probably only be Greek: inside.
With “Ta Vimata” (“The Steps”) and “Omarfo Mou” (“My Beautiful”), the only two songs in her mother tongue, she could have boost tourist longings in Greek films from the 1960s. One sometimes wonders whether it is really an album by the American indie label sub pop or a forgotten ethno-pop treasure from the flea market on the outskirts. It’s great that you can make such music very unironically.
