Agency Reuters showed footage from the site of the operation to destroy one of the leaders of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist organization banned in Russia, Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Kureishi.

According to US President Joe Biden, a special operation by the US military aimed at the destruction of al-Quraishi, passed on the night of February 3 in northwestern Syria. The US administration said that the ISIS leader blew himself up, also killing several members of his family.

According to Pentagon spokesman John Kirby, at least three civilians were killed during the operation – the wife of the IS leader and his children. The U.S. “has compelling evidence” that the actions of militants, not the U.S. military, led to their deaths, Kirby said. He added that more than ten civilians were escorted out of the building where al-Qurayshi was hiding.
