Celebrating Christmas with your loved ones: for some people this is self-evident, but for some people it takes a lot of effort. Thousands of kilometers are traveled to sit down together for that Christmas dinner with stewed pears and tiramisu. “I’m nervous about it.”
Yolanda Bennekers and her husband Gert-Jan are waiting for their son and daughter-in-law with their baby. “They live in San Diego and we are all going to celebrate Christmas for the first time in years.” It makes her emotional. “I’m completely nervous about it.”
11-year-old Quyver from Grootschermer is also waiting eagerly. “To my grandmother, I haven’t seen her for a year. I’m completely excited!” he exclaims excitedly. He says that he will run to her when he sees her. “Then I’ll go crazy and go crazy, waaah!”, he roars.
The outfits of the couple standing a little further away in the arrivals hall are striking. They are waiting for their mother in large inflatable koala suits. “She really likes koalas,” says the daughter. “So we want to surprise her. It’s a pet name in our family.”
‘Babette’ is written on a large balloon. “My daughter is coming home after six months in Sydney. I am very happy to hold her in my arms again. We are going to celebrate Christmas extensively,” says Babette’s mother, who is clearly eager. “Nothing better than Christmas with your whole family, right?”
As soon as Quyver’s grandmother (11) has her suitcase and walks into the arrivals hall, her grandson sprints towards her and hugs her neck. “My grandmother of my dreams!”, he says and his grandmother laughs. “We’re going to celebrate and eat a lot,” she responds happily.
