Return after two and a half years: Benedetto moves from Marseille to Boca Juniors

Loan to FC Elche ended

Two and a half years after leaving for Europe, Darío Benedetto returns to his native Argentina. The 31-year-old centre-forward, who has been on loan from Olympique Marseille to FC Elche in Spain since the summer, signed a contract on Friday until December 31, 2024 with Boca Juniors, where he had already played from 2016 to 2019.

According to TyC Sports the transfer fee amounts to 3 million euros and is therefore just below the market value (3.5 million) of the 31-year-old. Benedetto had scored 17 goals in 71 games for Marseille, but lost his regular spot in winter 2020 to new signing Arkadiusz Milik (27). In the summer he was loaned to Elche, where after six games from the start he had also been outside since the end of October and was recently not in the squad three times.

At Boca Juniors, the attacker now wants to continue his most successful career. In the 2016/17 season, the right-footed player was top scorer in the professional league with 21 goals and then made his debut for the national team.
