Restored signs of streets in Roden named after war victims

The state nameplates in Roden, named after resistance and war victims of the Second World War, have been restored.

After the signs were replaced once, information about the background of the people after whom the streets were named was missing. In the past two days, 14 streets have received new street signs that briefly mention their connection to the war.

The lack of that text led to displeasure among others, including the bereaved Ella Postema. Ella was 1 year old when her father Jan Postema was arrested because of his role in the May strike in Roden. She did not see her father again after that; he was shot dead in Groningen.

The disappearance of the Postemastraat caption gave her a sense of disappointment. Together with the 4 May committee and the Noordenveld Memorial Foundation, she approached the municipality, which eventually agreed.

More information behind the persons of the street signs named after them is here to find.
