Residents are left with questions after presentation of wind turbine sound research: ‘And now?’

Concerned and heated reactions during the residents’ meeting about the noise research that was done at wind farm De Drentse Monden and Oostermoer. Several dozen local residents attended the residents’ meeting organized by the municipality of Borger-Odoorn in response to the results of the research report.

This shows that the arrival of the wind farm – with 45 wind turbines from Nieuwediep to Valthermond – in the Veenkoloniën will cause more low-frequency noise in the area. Research agencies LBP Sights and DGMR carried out measurements and research into the noise in the area for two years. “We were asked to take an acoustic photo before the wind farm arrived. And when they are running,” DGMR researcher Gerard van Kempen explains to the audience. “We did.”

Local residents from Valthermond, 2e Exloërmond, Nieuw-Buinen and the direction of Musselkanaal, among others, attended the meeting because they have experienced noise nuisance since the arrival of the wind farm. Not only because of low-frequency noise, but also the so-called whirring of the blades irritates them.
