The fire broke out around 6:50 p.m. The owner of the house was home at the time.
Her brother Harrie Driel heard what had happened shortly afterwards. “I was at home when I got the call and it said: your sister’s house is on fire,” he says. “The first thing I asked was: how is my sister?”
Harrie went straight to the garden park. At first he was stopped by the police, but later he was able to reach his sister.
“It turned out she had suffered burns. Last night she was in the hospital because of the pain and now she is back. This time for her wounds.”
Residents heard a huge bang
Other residents of the allotment park also immediately noticed that something was wrong.
“We were sitting in the garden and there was a huge bang. Really not normal,” says local resident Fred Kuiper. “Then we immediately called 911, because we knew right away that something was going on.”
