An international team of Belgian and American researchers has made an important discovery that sheds new light on the development of myocarditis and pericarditis, inflammation of the heart muscle and the heart bag. They found that an accumulation of mutated blood cells – a process known as clonal hematopoës of indefinite potential (chip) – considerably increases the risk of myocarditis and pericarditis.
