The armed forces need extra space to grow. For this, Defense is investigating several locations throughout the Netherlands. However, a careful completion of the study requires more time. The draft National Policy Vision Room for Defense therefore appears at the end of May instead of the previously communicated first quarter of this year. State Secretary Gijs Tuinman announced this today.

The policy document contains the preferred locations that Defense has in mind. However, in -depth research is still needed. This is due to additional questions and information collected from administrative consultations and information meetings in the country.

“I want to continue to guarantee the care of the NPRD process. Unfortunately, more time is needed for this. That is why I can only adjust the planning and announce the provisional preferred locations at the end of May. I understand that people stay in uncertainty for longer, but this is necessary for a careful process, “says State Secretary Gardener.

The fact that the National Policy Vision draft now appears at the end of May has no consequences for the rest of the planning. Everyone who wants to do that can submit an opinion before the summer holidays. The government can also still determine the final policy vision at the end of this year.
