They prefer that the municipality is building a whole new rescue center. “If there is any renewal, do it well and replace the entire outdated accommodation for new construction, with a new higher tower,” says Buis.
The brigade has had too little space for years, Buis explains. Material is partly outside, courses must be given in a space that is too small and the energy costs rise.
The alderman understands the wishes of the rescuers, but says that there is no money for a whole new center for the time being. “Let’s start with the tower and then see during that process whether we can bring funds together to meet the wishes of the rescue brigade.”
Are we still safe on the beach?
According to the rescuers it is still safe to swim on the wide beach of IJmuiden. Kees Buis: “In the summer we ensure that we are on the beach with enough people, with cars and with boats on the water. We ensure that the beach stays safe, but we are impeded by the circumstances” “” “
Municipal research
The municipality has proposed to make four tons available for a feasibility study and the start of the construction of a new tower. That amount is by no means enough to build a new center of. Buis would therefore rather see that the new building is being postponed than that half work is now being delivered. “If that tower is a plan with a comma, I think it’s a good plan. If there is a point after the tower, I prefer that we will postpone the entire project until more money is available.”
