Back in the 1990s, the eider was one of the most abundant bird species in the Baltic Sea. Then the situation started to deteriorate. The causes of the haakka’s plight and rescue attempts are followed in journalist-writer Kimmo Ohtonheimo’s nature documentary A haak’s distress call. Humor is far from Ohtonheimo’s latest direction. In it, he not only deals with one species, but through the fate of the egret, he mirrors the future of the entire Baltic Sea. A haak’s distress call will be seen this week on Saturday evening also on TV1 Open nature at the program location.
