Report: Undav moves to Brighton – Gladbach & VfL were interested

Gladbach & VfL were interested

This article appeared on Transfermarkt on January 28, 2022 at 06:54 and was later updated with new information.

Deniz Undav (25) from the Royale Union Saint-Gilloise does not seem to be drawn back to his home country of Germany. As the “dyke room“ reported, the native of Lower Saxony is moving to Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League. Accordingly, the attacker should sign with the “Seagulls” during this transfer period, but spend the rest of the season on loan with the surprising leaders of the Jupiler Pro League.

The Englishmen made a similar deal this winter when Kacper Kozlowski (18) came from Pogon Stettin for 11 million euros and was immediately loaned to Union SG. Both clubs have in common that they have the same owner in Tony Bloom. While the native of London mainly works at the English club, he appointed his business partner Alex Muzio as club president of Union SG. The club is at the top of the table by a clear margin after promotion last season. Undav, who was involved in 28 goals in 24 appearances and is the best scorer in the Belgian top flight, has a large part in this.

His performances are said to have attracted interest from the Bundesliga, where the striker has been linked with Borussia Mönchengladbach and VfL Wolfsburg. In the Wolves, Undav could follow Wout Weghorst (29), who is likely to be drawn to Burnley. Meanwhile, scouts from Gladbach are following a report by “image‘ according to ‘convinced’ by Undav, whose contract in Belgium runs until 2023.

For Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, a sale of the third most valuable player in the squad, who recently jumped in market value from 2.2 to 5 million euros, would certainly mean a new transfer record. This has been held by Youssoufou Niakaté (29) since 2019, who moved to Al-Wahda in Saudi Arabia for EUR 2 million – the fee for Undav is said to be at market value.

Gladbach: speculation about Thuram’s departure – interest in Arsenal’s Nketiah

In the course of the rumors about Undav, the “Bild” brought into play Marcus Thuram (24) leaving the “foals”, who has been playing like a shadow of himself since his deal with Inter Milan collapsed last summer: zero goals and zero assists in 14 missions. The Frenchman’s market value has fallen from 40 to 28 million euros in the last twelve months. Meanwhile, “Sky Sports” in England reports that Gladbach is interested in Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah (22), whose contract expires in the summer.

While Undav, who is being courted in Europe, has apparently decided on a new club, Stefan Kuntz, coach of the Turkish national team, is said to be trying to bring the striker with Turkish roots into the team. On Wednesday evening, the 1.78 meter tall center forward was in action in the 0-0 game against pursuers Club Brugge – the next game, on Sunday afternoon against RSC Anderlecht, takes place one day before the end of the transfer window.
