Despite reaching the tenth championship overall, coach Mauricio Pochettino’s future at Paris Saint-Germain is anything but certain. A few weeks ago, the French newspaper reported “Le Parisian” of an upcoming separation from the 49-year-old Argentine at the end of the season – and the coach himself seems to be looking for a new employer.
The Basque daily newspaper “El Correo” According to reports, Pochettino recently met with Athletic Bilbao presidential candidate Ricardo Barkala. The traditional Spanish club are eighth in LaLiga with three games to go and still have outsider chances of qualifying for European competition. However, coach Marcelino’s expiring contract has not yet been extended.
In addition to Pochettino, ex-Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde, who managed Bilbao between 2003 and 2005 and 2013 and 2017, was recently brought into play as a possible successor. For Pochettino, the Basque club would be the second stop in Spain after three years at Espanyol Barcelona (2009-2012).

Pochettino’s PSG-Aus is getting closer – criticism of the deployment times of talents
It seems more and more unlikely that the Argentine will fulfill his contract in the French capital, which runs until 2023. After being eliminated in the Champions League round of 16 and winning the Ligue 1 championship early on, PSG’s season was decided early on, but criticism of Pochettino didn’t diminish as a result.
Because talents from the PSG offspring like Xavi Simons (19), Edouard Michut (19) or Ismaël Gharbi (19) were not or only rarely used in unimportant games in the final spurt of the season, the ex-professional had to explain himself. “I didn’t say they would play, I said they could get minutes,” Pochettino said (quoted via “RMC Sports”) after last weekend’s 2-2 draw against ESTAC Troyes. “We have a squad with more than thirty seasoned players. A squad that hasn’t changed in January. There isn’t much room for the youngsters there. You have to earn those game moments.”
