Had extended in May
Anyone who thought on May 21 that the contract theater around Kylian Mbappé (23) would no longer be performed for a few years after the decision in favor of Paris Saint-Germain and against Real Madrid will now be told by the “L’Equipe” disappointed. As the French sports daily reports, citing a source at the club, the most valuable footballer in the world has not signed directly until 2025, but until 2024 with an option for another season – whether he pulls it or not is therefore up to the striker.
Before it was signed, President Emmanuel Macron intervened, the sporting director Leonardo had to give way, Mbappé is said to have had a say in transfers at PSG and was persuaded with a fee of 100 to 120 million euros, which is based on the approximately 60 million euros annual salary on top of that. Real Madrid were left with nothing in the media a week before the successful Champions League final against Liverpool when Mbappé held up the shirt with the number 2025 alongside PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaïfi.

As early as summer 2023, PSG could be in a similar situation to 2021, when Mbappé went into his last year of contract and at that time really wanted to go to Real Madrid, which failed with an offer beyond the 100 million mark. “Of course they were. Real made an offer. (…) I am tied to Paris and if I had gone this summer, then only to Real,” Mbappé told L’Équipe in early October 2021.
All that changed by May 21, 2022 – now the striker wants to take PSG and Ligue 1 to a new level. “I can imagine their disappointment,” Mbappé said on social media, thanking “Real Madrid and President Florentino Pérez sincerely.”
