Tehran (dpa -AfX) – According to a report, the Iranian government is again available for new negotiations with the USA after the bombing of its nuclear facilities in June. As the daily newspaper “Farikhtegan” reported, Iran’s tour made the decision on Sunday. With the resumption of the talks, Tehran also wants to communicate with the Europeans in order to avert the reintroduction of hard UN sanctions. So far, the government has not officially commented on this.
Israel had waged war against Iran for twelve days in June and bombed central facilities of the nuclear program together with the United States, including the underground Fordo facility. Israel’s government justified the procedure with a threat from Iran’s nuclear and rocket program. Numerous lawyers classified the war as contrary to international law. Most recently, Iran’s government had expressed concern about a new war.
Europeans are introducing the reintroduction of UN sanctions
In the meantime, Germany, France and Great Britain (E3), as the participationer of the Vienna Atom deals from 2015, initiated the reintroduction of UN sanctions against Iran to create diplomatic pressure. Before the war, the United States had negotiated with Tehran for almost two months about the nuclear program – without a breakthrough.
A sixth round of talks no longer came about after Israel started the war two days earlier. The negotiations had stalled on a central issue: the United States demanded that Iran will set its uranium enrichment – a demand that Tehran strictly rejected. As a further reaction to the war, Iran temporarily stopped working with the international atomic energy authority IAEA.
Iran had already committed itself to restricting its nuclear program in the Vienna Nuclear Agreement. In return, sanctions should be canceled. In his first term, however, US President Donald Trump unilaterally terminated the agreement. In fact, the deal has not been implemented for years ./arb/dp/jha
