After the resignation of Max Eberl due to illness, Borussia Mönchengladbach wants to spread responsibility in the sporting area across several shoulders. So reports the “image“-Zeitung, which names a concrete candidate for the newly created post of technical director. According to information from the newspaper, ex-Gladbach professional Hubert Fournier is the favorite for the job.
Fournier played for the “foals” between 1996 and 1998 and founded the squad of the French at Borussia. Since then, with the newest representative Kouadio Koné, there have been seven other professionals from the neighboring country (to the overview of all French players at Borussia Mönchengladbach). Ex-Lyon coach Fournier has been the director of the French Football Association since 2017.
The club wants to take its time to look for a successor to Eberl, who, exhausted and in tears, announced his retirement from football on January 28, as Vice President Rainer Bonhof recently explained. The long-time Gladbacher Eberl, who has been sports director of VfL since 2008, said when he left: “I have to go out, I just have to see the world. I don’t want to have anything to do with this football anymore.”
