Report: Borussia Mönchengladbach is watching Vangelis Pavlidis from AZ Alkmaar

17 goals in 2021/22

“The big upheaval is imminent,” said squad planner Steffen Korell recently about Borussia Mönchengladbach’s upcoming transfer period. “We will sell without being able to replace something of equal value,” he announced. Because the storm trio Marcus Thuram (24), Breel Embolo (25) and Alassane Plea (28) have given up and should bring in a fee of 15 million euros each, the “foals” are apparently looking for a possible replacement. As the “image“ reports, Borussia observes the former Bochum and Dortmund Vangelis Pavlidis (23) from AZ Alkmaar.

Accordingly, Korell and chief scout Mario Vossen recently traveled to the Netherlands to see the attacker in action in the Europa Conference League against Bodø/Glimt. The Greece international struck twice in the 2-2 draw and took his goal tally to 17 this season, sharing the club’s top scorer status with Jesper Karlsson (23). There are also seven templates that he collected in his 40 appearances across all competitions. “He’s developing very well in the AZ jersey now,” said coach Pascal Jansen recently about the striker. His performances to date were also reflected in the Eredivisie market value update, in which Pavlidis was among the winners, up 3 on his career high of €4m.

Pavlidis has only been active for AZ Alkmaar since this season, which paid €2.5m to league rivals Willem II Tilburg. His contract runs until 2025, which is why a fee would be due. According to Korell, the interested “foals” have to work “with considerably less financial possibilities than in recent years”.
